A recent Pew Research Center survey proves majority of Americans believe the biblical Christmas story actually happened.
Approximately 75 percent of Americans surveyed expressed belief that Mary was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus Christ. These respondents also believe that an angel was actually witnessed by a shepherd. The angel then announced the upcoming birth of the Messiah.
These same Americans who took part in the survey also claim to believe that three wise men were guided by a star in order to locate and pay tribute to the infant Jesus. They then brought him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
According to the same Pew Research Center survey, 80 percent of American adults believe that Jesus was born and laid down in a manger.
Over half of the US adults surveyed professed they believe in all aspects of the traditional Christmas story. These include the virgin birth, the visit of the magi, the angel prophesy about the birth of Jesus and how the Messiah was born in a manger.
Some people who don't profess to be members of any religion also claim they believe the traditional Christmas story. About 20 percent of these non-religious respondents claim they believe all four Christmas events are historically accurate while almost 40 percent believe at least one of the aspects are true.
