In honour of pastor Saeed Abedini, Christian musician Jeremy Camp has decorated his family Christmas tree with paper crosses.
The gesture comes after the imprisoned pastor penned a heartbreaking Christmas letter from his cell in Iran, telling of how the guards had forced him to remove a paper cross he had hung up.
"The guards can't even stand the paper cross that I have made and hung next to me as a sign of my faith and in anticipation of celebrating my Savior's birth. They have threatened me and forced me to remove it," Abedini wrote.
The Iranian American also told of how he spent 'unbearable' nights unable to sleep due to the cold, and that being completely without his family made the upcoming Christmas "cold" and "shattering".
Camp's Instagram post called on followers to join him in prayer. "Join us in praying for him, his family and all those suffering for the gospel! There is a huge need in our world today for the hope that only Jesus can bring! #pray#hangapapercross #Savesaeed."
Abedini was sentenced to 8 years in prison early 2013 for 'proselytising' while in Iran helping to build a state-run orphanage. An ACLJ petition calling for his release has gathered over 300,000 signatures.
