An Egyptian prosecutor has ordered the arrest of nine men who appeared in a video of the country's 'first gay marriage'.
According to a statement by authorities, the footage, which features the men celebrating a gay wedding aboard a Nile riverboat, was "humiliating", "regrettable" and "violated public decency".
So far, 7 of the 9 men have been detained for an investigation and are set to undergo physical examinations, State News Agency Mena reported.
The 'wedding' took place in April earlier this year, but it was only after its footage went viral last month that authorities decided to take action.
Although same-sex relationships are not banned in Egypt, dozens of men have been criminalised for homosexual acts in the past under laws against "debauchery" or "shameless public acts".
Gay marriage, however, is explicitly forbidden.
