My view is to take the reader on a different path.
First - the mammoth physical and spiritual task undertaken by Brian Houston over many years establishing a global church is phenomenal - the only way this could be sustained is through good people leading each of the global churches.
Such an undertaking over so many years is bewildering - his physical and spiritual resources would have been tested to the limit - how he lasted this distance is to be lauded beyond any words I might have.
To suggest that he was not called upon to put out spot fires 24/7 across a global church illustrates a sheer lack of knowledge or understanding of such ministry.
Second - to have been stupid twice - over so many years - is not in my view a sackable offence - there are bullies in every congregation in every church and mission. Hillsong was no different.
So he wrote a stupid email - 9 years ago - and under medication in 2019 and a bit tipsy (go read the Old Testament about leaders getting a bit tipsy) - no one is claiming in fact he did anything immoral - just stupid.
There are many failings in the lives of all bullies - they point and four fingers point back at them - I pity Brain Houston - my summation - he was fed up.
In my own ministries over 45 years - I’m a plain jane main stream bush Baptist - not Pentecostal - but with an international young writer ministry - and 17 years Aust cricket team chaplain / Olympic ministry - won international awards - author of 25 books - and 10 years as a train diver as a young man - I’ve seen it all - being street wise provides ‘sight’
History reveals that when the bullies take over...not much good comes out of it.
Brain Houston is not made up to do nothing.
