The one thing the Olympics cannot teach us.
The Tokyo Olympics has been a historic event showcasing some of the world’s greatest athletes. It has also taught us about many of the key Gospel components. From of “sin bins”, to themes of sacrifice, and victory, the Olympics point to the eternal nature of God and His relationship with us.
However, the one thing sport cannot fully understand is grace. That is, a God so amazing that He would search after us and reveal His love to us through Jesus as an underserved free gift. Sport operates on performance:
You train hard, you try your best and you earn a reward. The Gospel operates on grace: an undeserved free gift offered to us. This is the God you discover in the Bible.
As we conclude our daily devotionals and the Tokyo Olympic Games we encourage you to read the Bible through this lens of grace: a loving God reaching out us through Jesus.
Each day of the Olympics Christian Today Australia has printed an extract of a larger devotional, The Spirit of Victory. This will help you go deeper into the good news of grace.
