Australian Open: The secret of older athletes

It was an epic battle. Francesca Schiavone and Svetlana Kuznetsova fought a 4 hour and 44 minute marathon to record the longest Grand Slam singles game ever. What made it even more spectacular was that the winner, Schiavone, is one of the oldest players on the tour at 31 years. Andre Agassi was 36 when he retired after a stellar performance at the US Open in 2006. Jimmy Connors turned pro in 1972 and was still playing at the top level in 1992 (he retired in 1996). Martina Navratilova turned pro.

    The Queensland floods are lapping at one of Brisbane's sporting sacred sites, Lang Park. The current flood waters are making their way down the Bremer River and Lockyer valley, spilling into the Brisbane river.
