
On Saturday Manchester City were at home to Wolves. Wolves would have been forgiven for thinking this would be a difficult task however they pushed city all the way in a pulsating encounter. City ended up winning 4-3 to take them top of the league.
Chelsea were at home to Blackburn in a game that was a must win for the Blues. Chelsea started brightly and controlled much of the game. In the end they were too strong for Blackburn running out 2-0 winners at the Bridge.
Arsenal also won as they faced a tricky trip across town to local rivals West Ham. With the Hammers fighting for survival this promised to be a fantastic match up. Arsenals quality showed in the end with a 3-0 win to keep the pressure on City and United at the summit of the Premiership.
In other weekend matches, Birmingham and Aston Villa played out a 1-1 draw in the midlands derby. West Brom beat Blackpool 3-2 in the battle of the promoted clubs, while Wigan and Fulham played out a 1-1 draw. Stoke City were too strong for Bolton, coming out 2-0 victors whilst in the north east derby Sunderland and Newcastle shared the spoils with an entertaining 1-1 draw. In the big mersyside derby honours were even with a 2-2 draw between the mersyside heavy weights.
