Superhero status

Superhero status

For most of my life, I have looked up to superhero figures; whether in comics, film or in popular culture. However, over the last few years, I have begun to notice that it is the human characteristics of superheroes that actually seem to resonate the most..

  • The treasures of responsibility

Today marks the sixth month since I made the decision to start making my bed at the beginning of each morning. A menial, irrelevant task some may say. But a practise, which for me, represents much more.

  • My short lived quarter life crisis…

Recently I caught up with a bunch of friends who I had not seen for a long time.

  • Don’t dwell in your silence

Just recently I was sitting in a very uncomfortable conversation with some people from my university class about several things I did not agree with.

  • Lawrence of Arabia – 100 years since Ottoman Empire ended

Tomorrow, 30 October 2018 is the date associated with the end of the 600 year Ottoman Empire with the conclusion of the Battle of Megiddo and Semakh and the signing of the Armistice of Mudros.

  • How do you know?

In culture today, there is a slight obsession with knowing. Whether it is knowing yourself, knowing the world in which you live, knowing your spouse or boss, knowing it seems is very highly desired by people.

  • Are you a Christian Tree?

The island of Barbados is breathtakingly beautiful. My Barbadian friend, Endomo, a graphic artist who loves outdoor photography, recently sent me a picture of a tree he spotted on a road trip. Here’s the picture:

  • A young scientist who is a Christian

Nathanael Yates played the mad scientist role at school. Despite the uniform code, he could always be found with multicoloured hair, spray-painted lab coat and safety glasses. At least he was following the Occupational Health and Safety guidelines!  He claims that one the joys of admitting you are a scientist (even at parties) is that no-one minds how eccentric you act.

  • Getting pulled over by police changed my idea on sin

A few weeks ago, I was pulled over by a police officer. I had my kids in the car and we were late for school.  I was in a hurry and there was a car next to me, so I was not able to move over into the car pool lane.

  • Property – different scenarios

I recall an article in the Sydney Morning Herald by Nathan Bell titled  'A different kind of property bubble' discussed the true value of property trusts and how badly they were hit at the time of the GFC.

  • Battle of Monte Cassino – New Zealanders and Germans

'Auckland NOW' ran a feature some time ago - by Aimee Gulliver on the gathering of New Zealand WWII veterans who fought at Monte Cassino in Italy with Prince Harry as the honoured Royal Guest for this dedicated occasion.

  • Dear beloved

I wish you would live as if you’ve fallen in love. I wish you would stand captivated by the beauty of creation by the Creator, counting all the blue shades that so prettily follow the sun and all those shades of the falling sun.
