Jesus: the leader

Jesus: the leader

When I think of who Jesus is, words like 'messiah', and 'Christ', come to mind. Maybe even 'miracle-worker' or 'teacher'. After all, he was and is all those things, and when he walked the earth he was either called by those names, or referred to himself using them..

  • Abortion

Abortion—a word that has been thrown around lately like a batter in a hot pan. In the state where I live, abortion to full term has recently been passed in Parliament. People have cried about it and others were dancing in the street over it.

  • Is taxation theft?

Every day, whether we make money or spend money or even hold money in a bank, we will inevitably pay some form of tax. Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America, is attributed with saying that “There are only two things certain in life: death and taxes”.

  • Policing and Remembrance Day

Yesterday the 11 Day of the 11th month we as a nation stood as one for Remembrance Day, the end of the Great War, the armistice, the war to end all wars.

Nearly every Sunday of my 30+ years has been spent in church.

  • Journey with the Unforgivable Sin

In late 2015, I received a call that changed my life. It was from my mother, her voice barely audible. She was sobbing on the other end of the line. “Your grandfather,” she finally said. • Granny get your gun

My maternal grandmother was a ‘good ole girl,’ much loved by her grandchildren.

  • Charles Sturt, 1795—1869

Death seemed imminent. Sturt and his men were stranded on a sand bar at the Murray- Darling river junction. Confronting them on the bank were nearly 600 Aboriginals, painted, armed and making menacing gestures to their war-song. This was Sturt’s second exploratory journey into the outback. Would it be his last?

  • Beyond Africa

It seems when someone's asked to imagine mission, their minds often think of Africa, digging wells and looking after disadvantaged children.  I used to think this too.  Although Africa is pretty huge, my concept of world mission was in fact limited to this one continent.

How many seconds does it take for you to decide not to help someone?
