Embracing the real Christmas

Embracing the real Christmas

Yes, it’s that time of the year again, sometimes called the ‘silly season.’ In our part of the world, it’s the end of year wind-up, and amidst the frantic advertising and busy social calendars, there’s preparation for holidays, with Christmas squeezed in somewhere at the end of it all..

  • The crying shame of the holiday season

I am at the end of my first decade of teaching. It has been a long year with many ups and many downs. In truth 2018 has been my busiest, happiest and most difficult. I am now officially on holiday and I have 6 weeks at home with Haley and the kids.

  • Christmas and its exclusivity?

What does it mean when I see or hear the word ‘exclusive’. Perhaps something desirable, or it might refer to something that excludes me and my family. Or even something unobtainable, beyond my reach.

  • What happened to us?

If you’ve seen the news lately, honestly it’s rather depressing with what is happening to society. So much has gone from one way to the complete opposite, where you can be attacked for standing up for your faith.

  • A light in the dark

  • Goats, roses, social media and the gospel

Seven was the number of white rose standards planted down my driveway before I went to sleep.

  • Strengthening the patient muscle

Patience has gotten me a long way. I have to be patient for and patient with many things in my life. It is hard at times to have patience. However, I've come to realize how much I need patience to keep going.

  • 2019 social sanctions and speech controls

What do we see on television news casts. Under the guise of radical progressives and their intellectual book-burning agenda we see outrages.

  • The ones who knock

Well, friends, it’s getting to that time of year. Christmas is happening, carols play 24/7, and for those of us that work, those holidays are starting to look very appealing.

  • The Original

Original. There is something about the first of something. The new versions may be grander and more efficient, but they will never hold the place of the first. That original awe that develops into sentiment upon reflection.

  • Is guilt good?

I was (re)watching Marvel's “Daredevil” on Netflix the other night, when a really great quote came up, so I went to note it in my phone under my “writing ideas” heading. When I opened up the note, I realised I'd already written it there last time I watched the series! I figured that in that case, I'd better actually write about it.

  • Australia is awakening

We are in significant times in Australia right now. God is pouring out His Spirit in fresh and unprecedented ways.
