Isn’t Christianity Just a Bunch of Outdated Rules?

Isn’t Christianity Just a Bunch of Outdated Rules?

I often feel like a prehistoric dinosaur wearing the “Christian” label. While friends and acquaintances accept my beliefs, the questions I get asked and comments I receive suggest that there is an underlying feeling that my beliefs are slightly outdated, not to mention seriously restrictive, especially when it comes to the area of pre-marital sex..

  • Emotions Plus

Emotions often get a bad rap, especially in the church. Have we forgotten that God invented emotions? What if they are actually a gift, purposed to draw us closer to him and lead us towards living in wholeness?

  • Communicate Like Jesus

A legacy I’ve inherited from my father is a strong interest in current events; I’m fascinated by what happens in the world, but more specifically I’m an observer of how people respond to what happens in the world.

  • Books are still the rave

Recent statistical; information coming from numerous sources are that books are still the rave in this internet world.

  • The crisis of the heart

The human heart has a great capacity for love. But it can only really love one thing supremely. I have had a few different loves of this type over the course of my life, and once something or someone has a hold on you like that, it’s not easy to let it go.

  • Eight virtues of real wisdom

What are the qualities of real wisdom? How do we know whether someone is truly wise? How can we become wiser? Some would say with age comes wisdom, but that's only half the truth.

  • The footplate padre  -  illustrating truth

The Footplate Padre tells the story from the days of steam when two locomotives crashed near Murrurrundi. This is told in more detail in my book "Footplate Yarns of Old".

  • The Passion of Perpetua and Felicity

I think it is fair to say that there are not many things more remarkable than a parent’s love. I remember a time when my eldest daughter was a baby, and I went to put her to sleep. When I went to leave her room, I realised that something was wrong with the door, and it would not open. I called out to my wife to try opening it from her end, but it was no good.

  • Sacred places in the ‘holy land’

Recently I was standing and observing Jewish people visiting the ‘Wailing Wall’ in Jerusalem. The huge stones that make up this wall are very important for orthodox Jews, as these ancient blocks are all that remains of their temple.

  • Is there intelligent life on other planets?

I was asked, by someone investigating Christian faith, whether it was possible that God had created life in other parts of the universe. When I’m asked these types of questions there are two things I consider: What is the Biblical evidence? Does the Bible mention this topic in any way?

  • When the ink dries

When we come to the end of our lives what will we leave behind, what sort of an imprint will we leave on the world around us? Before I came into a relationship with Jesus I didn’t think about the sort of legacy I would be leaving behind, I am now though and I pose the same question to you.

  • Queen Elizabeth ll – Longest serving English monarch

Did you know that Queen Elizabeth II had two ceremonies to mark the beginning of her public office?
