|PIC1|A goal of $3 million over three years has been set up, where this project represents the most 'significant' community in the history of the value-based airline. The money raised will be used to help World Vision community based projects in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand as well as in Australia.
The money will be raised in two ways. The first is through in-flight donation by Jetstar customers and the second method is through voluntary donation by Jetstar customers at booking.
To help launch StarKids, Jetstar will hold a one-day donation drive at Jetstar.com on Thursday 31 May 2007 (subject to regulatory approval) where the airline will donate monies based on the number of Jetstar bookings made over a 24-hour period.
Jetstar CEO Alan Joyce said the principal focus of the StarKids program is children and providing hope for their future would resonate with a high proportion of Jetstar's existing passenger base – that of young families.
"There is great correlation with the millions who fly Jetstar each year and the hundreds of thousands of Australians who proactively support World Vision by either directly sponsoring children or making existing contributions to their aid programs," said Mr. Joyce
Reverend Tim Costello, the World Vision Australia CEO, said that StarKids will give an opportunity for travellers to contribute to the sustainability of its project across the world.
"StarKids is giving staff and customers alike the opportunity to contribute towards the sustainability of the communities in many of the destinations that World Vision works and Jetstar flies," said Reverend Costello.
