Reverend Fairhurst told the Sydneyangliancs.net that he sees the translation project as an impetus to translate the Bible into other Aboriginal languages. He said that the Sydney Anglicans loves people who hear the Word of God and study it in their own language.
"This should be the impetus to see other complete translations of Aboriginal language Bibles taking place," said Reverend Fairhurst to the Sydneyanglicans.net. "As Sydney Anglicans, we love people hearing the Word of God and people hearing and studying it in their own language."
The Bible translation was undertaken by a group of Aboriginal Christians and missionaries in the Northern Territory, including CMS missionaries Lance and Gwen Tremlett.
Melbourne Anglican Archbishop Dr. Philip Freier welcomed the translation project and said this was an example of Reconciliation and a practical respond to be one in Christ.
"I welcome and appreciate the work of Indigenous translators, non-Indigenous consultants and translation resource workers as an example of Reconciliation, a practical and lived response to the call to be one in Christ," said Archbishop Freier.
