Chelsea v Liverpool was the highly anticipated clash of the weekend after last weeks deadline day dramas. Torres went for 50 million pounds to Chelsea last week, just 3 days before the clubs play each other. However Torres and Chelsea couldn't pull it together to give Torres a dream start as Liverpool stole the show with a 1-0 win at the Bridge. In a shock victory, Liverpool's resurgence was again on show as Dalglish continues to surprise the premier league.
Newcastle hosted Arsenal at St James Park in an enthralling encounter. Arsenal were sublime in the first half racing to a 4-0 half time lead. Van Persie was impressive with a double as Arsenal looked a certainty to close the gap on United, however as the premiership throws up surprises, none could believe what was about to happen. A motivating half time talk saw a different attitude at half time as Newcastle somehow started to claw their way back into what looked like a lost match. A brace from Barton set Newcastle up and then in the dying minutes Price scored a late goal to salvage a point as it ended 4-4.
Manchester City also kept their title dreams alive with an impressive 3-0 win at home to a poor West Brom. City were just too strong as Tevez was again the here with a Hat Trick. Aston Villa and Fulham played out a 2-2 draw at Villa Park after going ahead twice in the match, whilst also in the midlands Stoke City beat Sunderland 3-2.
In other Matches across the weekend Everton thumped 5 past Blackpool to win 5-3 with Saha scoring 4 goals in a great end to end match at Goodison. Wigan welcomed Neighbours Blackburn and won 4-3 in another high scoring affair. Spurs also kept their European chances afloat with a 2-1 win over battling Bolton. In Sundays other match Birmingham were too good for West Ham in a relegation 6 pointer.
