In other European matches Germany were too strong for Kazakhstan, winning 4-0. Rep of Ireland won a nail bitter 2-1 over Macedonia whilst Armenia and Russia shared the points with scoreless draw. Slovakia won away at Andorra by a solitary goal as did Albania at home to Belarus. Bosnia-Herzegovina beat Romania 2-1 and Georgia upset Croatia at home 1-0. Greece won away at Malta and Israel were too strong for Latvia. Norway and Denmark shared the spoils with an entertaining 1-1 draw whist Cyprus and Iceland remained goalless as did Bulgaria and Switzerland.
On Friday Austria lost at home to Belgium 2-0. Serbia were too strong at home to Northern Ireland coming out 2-1 winners whilst Italy struggled to a tough 1-0 away win in Slovenia. France overcame a tough test away at Luxemburg winning 2-0 whilst Holland thumped a hapless Hungary 4-0. Spain came away 2-1 winners over Czeck Republic in the toughest of the weekend fixtures.
