Sir Alex Ferguson last week handed long servant Paul Scholes a one year contract extension and Scholes paid his manager back with a superb injury time winner in a dramatic derby against Man City. Manchester was alive on Saturday with the anticipation of one of the biggest derby's in England. Man United travelled across to the blue side of the city in a must win game for both sides. Both teams defended well from the start with Bellemy and Scholes both going close. But with 20 seconds left of injury time, Scholes met a fantastic cross from Evra with a deft header that gave keeper Given no chance that sent the red half of Manchester into dreamland and keep their title aspirations alive.
Chelsea also had a derby as they went across town to meet Tottenham at White Hart Lane. In anther game that both teams had to win, Spurs got off to a great start with John Terry hand balling in the area to give Defoe the chance to step up to the sport. He converted with ease as he sent Chech the wrong way. Bale made it 2 soon after before Terry was sent from the field for a second bookable offence. Lampard scored late on for a consolation goal but the damage was already done. Chelsea are now only 1 point clear of United with 3 games to go, while Spurs are 2 points clear of Man City for the elusive 4th place. In what is already a fascinating season, it will all come down to the final few games to decide the title, and the champions league positions.
In the Relegation Battle, Hull City battled for a hard point away at Birmingham, whilst Burnley will find themselves hard done by after a 2-1 away defeat at Sunderland. Bent scored what looked like an offside goal that takes his tally to only 3 behind Rooney for the Golden Boot. These 2 results are no real help to both teams who now find themselves in real trouble with only a handful of games to go.
Everton's Tim Cahill scored a dramatic winner away at Blackburn. Everton are still fighting for a possible European place and did their chances no harm with another win. Aston Villa travelled to Portsmouth and came home with 3 points after a late winner saw Villa win 2-1. Fulham and Wolves played out an entertaining 0-0 draw at Craven Cottage, while Bolton came from behind at Stoke to win 2-1 away which eases the tension for the Lancashire club.
Arsenal threw their last chance out the window of snatching the title with a shock 3-2 loss to Wigan. The Gunners went 2-0 up after half time however a fantastic comeback was on for Wigan as they scored 3 goals in the last 10 minutes to all but book their place in the Premier League for next season.
