It is a fantastic location to conduct a cycling road training base and as a support to various other sports, especially now that the Triathlon has moved their base to the Gold Coast. There is the opportunity to over time build a national training base without investing money in infrastructure, it is all there naturally.

Perhaps the world's best known road cycling race is the Tour de France. When leader Lance Armstrong's bike went down [in a Tour de France gruelling bicycle race] after a collision with a spectator, his closest challenger Jan Ullrich and other lead cyclists slowed to wait for him to get back into the race.
They were honouring an unwritten code of honour. According to Diane Pucin in the L.A. Times, Ullrich said, 'If I would have won this race by taking advantage of someone's bad luck, then the race was not worth winning.' In January the Tour Down Under held in Adelaide drew much media attention as the Premier of the State needed to assure the cycling community that funds would be available to continue this major international fixture.
But did you know that there is another side of Road Cycling, and that is Missionary Service. Darren Lawson an Australian 1992 Barcelona Olympian in the Road Cycling Team and his wife Rosemary and family have been serving the Lord as missionaries for many years now. This writer and his family have enjoyed the Lawson family as their guests when home on furlough and deputation.
In 2002 Darren and Rosemary attended the Well-Being Australia inaugural 'Basil Sellers Around the Tables' in Sydney where various Mission couples came together for two days and two nights as guests of Well-Being Australia for respite and fellowship.
