Drogba was the hero at Old Trafford when he came off the bench to score to put Chelsea on top of the table with five games remaining. Ferguson was fuming after Drogba ran through clearly offside in a mouth watering contest between the top two sides in the country. However United did score late on with another highly contentious decision as Macheda looked to bundle the ball over with his hand.
There is now two points between Chelsea and United and with tough fixtures for both there are sure to be twists and turns before the end of the season.
Arsenal kept their title chances alive with a late Bendtner goal at the Eremites. Arsenal are now three points off the leaders but with Arsharvin, Fabragas and Gallas all with long term injuries, it would be a remarkable end to the season if they could surprise United and Chelsea to bring home the Championship.
Man City were the real winners this weekend in the race for the Champions League as Tottenham lost away to Sunderland 1-3 and Liverpool were held to a 1-1 away at St Andrews. Aston Villa kept their slim hopes of fourth position with a hard fought 1-0 away victory at Bolton. Man City were brilliant away at Burnley going 5-0 up before half time before completing the route 6-1.
In the race for an unlikely Europa League position Everton were held to a 2-2 draw with struggling West Ham while Fulham enjoyed a 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic.
There was no joy for any of the bottom five clubs as West Ham and Portsmouth were the only teams to take one point. Portsmouth drew with Blackburn while Hull City lost away at Stoke.
