Every sport has these teams, in the Soccer there is Manchester United and Real Madrid. Basketball has the Los Angeles Lakers, Rugby league has the Brisbane Broncos and the Americans has the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox.
These "power" clubs collect the most money in advertisement; they get the best return in merchandise. They attract the best players because they can pay the exorbitant salaries these players demand. Players also want to play with them because of the perks that come with powerful clubs.
It is for the above reasons that it is so satisfying to see the San Francisco Giants playing in the World Series. The Giants are a small but proud Baseball Club steeped in a rich tradition and passion for the game.
Their playing roster is always filled with hard working true ball players. Their salary cap always has room as they try not to rely on superstars. The example they set is one that should be followed by all teams who are not the dominant franchise in a multiple sporting team town.
As a sporting enthusiast it is refreshing to see the Giants fighting the Texas Rangers for a World Series. It give us all a little hope for the local team we support on a personal level. It goes to show that winning is more than just a club having a load of cash in the vault, it's about hard work and toiling above and beyond what is required.
