Rarely do to powerhouse teams have to settle for a wildcard berths in the playoffs, and the calibre of opposition with all due respect could not be considered even close to the strength of the two franchises they were facing.
Never has two cities shame, been such a gain for a slightly struggling NFL. Over the past few years the sport has been dominated by two or three teams. This domination has slightly been interrupted the growing strength of the game and subdued the excitement for fans of franchises from smaller markets around the Country.
This year though there has been renewed vigour from supporters from these markets, mainly due to the race to the Super Bowl never having been this wide open.
Combine that with so many feel good stories amongst the remaining teams, the NFL must be rubbing their hands together with excitement.
The way the Jets beat the Colts is a big enough story itself, the New York Jets have been the Colts "bunnies" for the past five years, teaching them a lesson in fundamental football every time they have met.
Finally the brash coaching of Rex Ryan paired with the up and down quarterback Mark Sanchez having a career best day, overcame there last mental hurdle...... beating the machine that is Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.
The potential fairytales are endless; can the Falcons finally fulfil the potential and reap dividends from a strong season? Can Green Bay's Arron Rogers finally come out of the shadow of Brett Favre? Can the Jett's come down from their underdog story to refocus and make it to the Super Bowl? And the biggest question of all, can the Seattle Seahawks do anything?? Whatever happens , one thing for sure is the NFL produce something very, very, special.
