Manchester City CHAMPIONS!

By Wesley Tronson - Press Service International

On a dramatic final day of the Premier League season – Manchester City have re-enacted their heroics of the past. Man City came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at home to Aston Villa. All goals scored in the last 20 minutes to lift the premiership for the 4th time in 5 years.

With all fixtures keeping with tradition kicked off at 3.00pm Sunday afternoon. Liverpool needed victory to have any chance of winning the title and remain in the running for an unprecedented quadruple.

Mo Salah Golden Boot?

Early on Liverpool had appeared to have gone ahead on the table at Anfield. All even at 1-1 with Wolves for the majority of the match. Liverpool found some late spark with Salah coming off the bench to score with around 20 min remaining thus keeping his chance of the golden boot alive.

However it was City’s day. Their success was sealed as the final whistle went and City celebrated the title in front of their own home fans.

Relegation Close Call

Relegation also went down to the wire with Leeds travelling to Brentford needing points and hoping Burnley couldn’t get anything at home to Newcastle.

Both teams on the same points but Burnley ahead on goal difference. Burnley started poorly conceding early. Newcastle then went 2 up. Then Leeds scored away to take the advantage. However, Leeds then conceded to give Burnley hope and when Burnley clawed 1 back, the great escape looked on.

Burnley could not find an equaliser, as they threw everything at Newcastle. Leeds sealed the points with an injury time winner to keep Leeds in the Premier League. Burnley ended a 6 year stay in the Premiership.

European Places

The European places also were all to play for as Spurs needed to win away at relegated Norwich to ensure 4th position. With all the play for Spurs coming out strong eventually winning 5-0. Son also equalled the Golden Boot with Salah to seal a memorable afternoon for Tottenham. Arsenal struggled late in the season however did manage to win 5-1 at home to Everton, in case Spurs did slip up.

A few last fixtures didn’t change too much although West Ham did loose from the front away at Brighton to finish 7th.  Manchester United hung on to 6th and a Europa league position even with a 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace. Chelsea won 2-1 to Watford, whilst Leicester won 4-1 at home to Southampton to round out the Premiership season.
