A taste of the January atmosphere of country music will come to Tamworth in October, in the form of a night of top country gospel music.
The event kicks off at 7.30pm on 13 October at Southside Uniting Church, Goonoo Goonoo Road, Tamworth, and promises to be an unforgettable night of top family entertainment, with a message.
Headlining the program will be the band, 'Higher Ground' who have been working hard on a collection of new songs especially for the occasion.
The nine-piece band features harmony singing, together with first class musicianship on a wide variety of instruments including guitar, dobro, fiddle, piano, banjo, mandolin, and pedal steel guitar.
Event organiser, Bruce O'Hara, said the evening is designed to support the Scripture Union Tent Mission, located on Kable Avenue during each Country Music Festival.
"Scripture Union have been an integral part of the festivities since 1994", he said.
"This is where a hardy group of volunteers from a number of different churches, come together to share the message of the Gospel through music and a friendly chat over a cuppa, or cool drink."
Bruce O'Hara said Scripture Union had significant expenses associated with staging such an undertaking each year.
"So once again, Scripture Union have decided to try and raise some much needed financial support, by staging a night of top country gospel music", he said.
Admission is free, however, there will be an opportunity to contribute to the work of Scripture Union, and in particular the up-coming Country Music Mission.
Tamworth has hosted the annual Country Music Festival for the past 34 years, and it seems as if each year, more and more people come from all over Australia and beyond, to enjoy 10 days of music and merriment.
