Emma...God\'s on the phone

How much easier would it be to understand God\'s plan for our life if we could speak to him on the telephone. We could ask as many questions as we need, get God to talk through every step and ring up for extra advice when the going gets tough. Unfortunately, it\'s not that easy..

  • Why aren\'t you worried?

January is the perfect time of year for worrying. It\'s a fresh new year, full of hope and possibilities, including the possibility of all the things that might go wrong in 2017.

  • Offense and the f word.

Imagine that a large field of land represents your life, and on your block of land there are some explosive landmines. They\'re hidden—out of visible sight to your neighbours, and even yourself. All sorts of explosives nasties linger beneath the surface representing all kinds of hurts, from the \'I\'m-insecure-about-my-weight\' landmine, to the \'I-never-feel-good-enough\' landmine.

  • The halls of legend

25 September, 1066, Stamford Bridge. A single figure cuts into the sky, feet planted, shoulders square. Thick arms, blood streaked, hoists a battle axe aloft in a display of defiance. An opposing army lies before him, thousands of swords and spearheads glinting in the sun. On the open plains their superior numbers have successfully driven the diminishing Viking forces into retreat, but now they face a chokepoint, a bridge, defended by one lone warrior.

  • The blessing of blackouts

At the end of last year in October, the city of Adelaide—my home city, experienced a state-wide blackout—which has never previously occurred to this degree.

  • Discouragement to encouragement

Discouragement comes in many different forms. From unmet expectations, to broken hearts, to feeling lonely in a crowded room, discouragement al-ways seems to rear it\'s ugly head more often than not.

  • Going the extra mile with a smile in 2017

For the first time since coming to Australia over 15 years ago, I had the privilege of driving from Gold Coast to Canberra to visit some friends over the Christmas break. Flight options to Canberra proved to be quite expensive during this holiday season hence the decision to drive.

  • A scandalous question

Imagine for a moment that you and I are sitting together in a cosy cafe, enjoying a cup of coffee and having a leisurely chat. Then all of a sudden, I lean in closer and ask you: \"What is your purpose?\"

  • Proclaiming the beloved

The new year has arrived and with it comes vivid expectation of what could be. The new year is a time of dreaming. A time when visions of self improvement seem to be endless; when all that stands between ourself and future improved self is us.

  • The world needs Love but not as the world gives

I have been thinking about the topic of love for some time now; the need for it and the universal yearning for the outpouring of it in the world as a healing balm.
