Writing Fit

Writing Fit

While writers and exercise may not seem the most natural combination, it’s interesting that some of the lessons I learned during the massive lifestyle change I underwent when I started trying to get fit, and many of the things I found helped or hindered me, could just as easily be applied to my writing..

  • Cairns Ironman Triathlon

Voted the world’s best Ironman Triathlon, the Carins Ironman Triathlon also doubles as the Asia-Pacific Championships.

  • The peace-loving gossiper

I am in general peace-loving. Every time I take a personality test, I score high in agreeableness.

  • Why I will not be cheering for the Wallabies this World Cup…

I cast my mind back to 2003, I was at home with my family watching the Rugby World Cup final in Australia.

  • House fires

I’ve been alarmed at the surprisingly number of people who have been losing their lives through house fires.

  • Words, and hearing the voice of God

Words have so much power. One line from Star Wars can change the whole face of the storyline “Luke, I am your father” – Darth Vader. What an absolute shocker that was.

  • Let us run with perseverance…

“If God is so powerful, we should be more confident”

  • Identities

I’m a straight, white, Christian male. I’m an accidental advocate for women’s leadership. And in light of all the indignities of 2018, I wanted to share some thoughts.

  • The Face of God

One of my favourite plays and stories of all time is Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. When I was a kid my dad used to tell me about the musical and the story behind it and at one point downloaded the soundtrack, which I listened to non-stop. My sister and I would often blast the music through the house on our old Dell laptop.

  • Marriage conflict deconstruction

I met up with a group of girlfriends over dinner last week and we discussed about how we handled conflicts with our spouses. It was a very interesting conversation as we had different ways of approaching it.

  • Bohemian rhapsody

We watched the movie about English rock group Queen and its lead singer Freddie Mercury with its euphoric highs and chaotic lows, concluding with the awesome performance before the roaring clapping crowd of 100,000 excited fans at the Africa LiveAid concert at London’s Wembley Stadium.

  • Discount air fares

My wife Delma and I travel a great deal in their missionary endeavours and one way to save a few dollars here and there is fly light with only carry-on luggage, but if they need to have a larger bag, then they often only take one booked-in baggage item between the two of them.
