Goodbye Class of 2019

Goodbye Class of 2019

I realise many of my ex-students may remember some of these phrases from the past, but this year’s group particularly have been special to me. I have taught many of them since grade 7; the majority I have been with every year since grade 9- an absolute honour and privilege..

  • What if God was ‘A Bowl of Ice Cream?’

Of all the presents I received for my eighth birthday—coloring books, fancy stationery, and toys— the children’s Bible was the best gift. I recall racing through Genesis to Jude, but staying away from Revelation because I did not like thinking about the End Times.

  • Captain Mitsuo Fuchida  -  Pearl Harbour and the Christian Connection

Mitsuo Fuchida was more excited than usual as he awoke that morning. As general commander of the air squadron, he made some last-minute checks on intelligence information before going to warm up his plane.

  • Tips for being a better manager

Everyone likes to be their own boss…and it seems to have its perks! You get to set your own hours, tell people what to do, make your own decisions and the list goes on!

  • Buy your girlfriend before you try her

Outraged? Does the title bother you? I hope so. It’s horrible, yet it reflects an unfortunately prevailing view in society.

  • Storms, drowning, and rescue

When I was growing up, someone once asked "what would be the worst way to die." My response, "drowning." The older I get and the more I have time to think on my response, the more I realize how profound it actually was.

  • Money and the nature of contentment

How is this for a reality check as we come up to Christmas. There is more to living than wealth of possessions and I’m able to cite an Austrian (Austrian not Australian) multi-millionaire businessman Karl Rabeder, now 63, who concurs.

  • People connect differently

Press Service International Columnist Roydon Ng recently caught up with Pastor Kiran Skariah on how the suburban Youth Pastor is giving up his church job to run the biggest 24/7 youth group in the world.

  • Why the “ok boomer” meme is still relevant

Internet memes are often funny but can convey a serious message. They can be a useful way to break the ice to start a conversation, especially with young people (youth workers take notes).

  • Railway focus

Has anything changed since the railways developed across Australia in the mid to late 1800's? The wisdom then was, to reap rewards from investment, one should follow the train line and purchase property nearby.

  • Life Prep

Like any good Millennial Christian, I am a regular consumer of the YouVersion Bible’s reading plans and devotionals.

  • Everything Old is New Again

The first few weeks of January are probably the most lucrative time of year for people running gyms or selling exercise equipment. Across the country, there will be thousands upon thousands signing up for a gym membership, and there will be a run on exercise bikes and treadmills.
