Golden moments amongst the mess

Golden moments amongst the mess

Have you ever had an idea of how something is going to go and then reality happens, and it all goes quite differently? Whilst this happens at any stage of your life, I think it is especially true when you have small children..

  • All year resolutions

Christmas has come and gone. The celebrations would have somewhat settled down. While some of us may still be soaking in the wonders of the season (or what's left of it), others like me have pulled out our faithful little notebooks (and gadgets!) to start penning down resolutions. I don't think I would call myself a full on New Year's resolution kind of person, but I sure like to see a checklist or have some ideas of what I would like accomplished in the next year.

  • Prostitution has so many evils

Nola is a remarkable story. Nola turned to sex work after becoming a single mother while she was still a teenager. Selling her body was her desperate way of getting enough money to support her children with special needs.

  • The first time I looked at porn... and how God delivered me (Part 1)

I was 16 years old and attending high school in Jamaica. One day, while hanging out with other boys in the bushes at school, someone pulled out a sex book. I had never seen a book like that before. It was filled with naked men and women. I was stunned.

  • It was the last round of cricket before Christmas...

It is the last round before Christmas for our fictional local cricket club. Many players have family and work commitments and have withdrawn from the final round. Being able to get the seven teams the seventy seven players required for the final round has become desperate. It is a race to find numbers.

  • Tithing matters of consideration

Many of us have been there at some stage. Sitting in the church pew or isle, the offerings container approaches and you think, ‘Oh, ummm…’ You check your wallet or purse even though you know you forgot to organise something to be in there – just so people know you at least tried and were not completely avoiding the tithe…

  • The traditional Boxing Day and...

The traditional Boxing Day chore of clearing up the house of Christmas Day parcels is philosophically poignant for ministry.

  • Kids on school holidays

It is our summer school holidays of six weeks and there are kids everywhere! Free range chooks lay free range eggs. You are supposed to somehow mystically taste that these eggs came from chooks that are happier, healthier, more at peace, than caged chooks. No?

  • Breaking the chains of abortion

A topic that polarises and creates heated debate, is it a women’s health issue? Or is it protecting those who do not have a voice? Abortion has been one of those topics which has been on the minds and lips of literally millions of people over the past 12 months. Qld and NSW parliaments debated and voted for the decriminalisation of abortion under the powerful protests of pro-life and pro- choice advocates.

  • Jesus is the question

Whatever they have done to me, they will do to you also. These are the comforting words of Jesus to his servants.

  • Who do you say I am?

We live in a generation where people are somewhat hungry for the truth. With so many perceived truths and not to mention the great increase in knowledge, its even harder to separate fact from fiction, reality from make belief, and the word of God from people's own personal opinions. But who do you say I am?

  • Welcome to the wonder

There’s nothing like finding yourself jobless, groundless and essentially homeless to make you re-evaluate your life.
