  • Back to the future – KiwiRail

Late last year both the New Zealand Herald and the Railway Gazette made play that KiwiRail had finally made a decision on the \'electric\' haulage of freight trains.

  • Creating a miniature world and sharing its secrets

Since I was a child, I remember being enraptured by all things miniature. One of my earliest childhood memories was playing with our miniature house (yes, a doll\'s house) in the hallway. Although it didn\'t contain much in the way of accessories, the magic and wonder of this small created universe intoxicated me.

  • Lion is the Best Movie of the Year

My headline really says it all. Lion is the best movie of the year and the only one you need to see in 2017.

  • Emma...God\'s on the phone

How much easier would it be to understand God\'s plan for our life if we could speak to him on the telephone. We could ask as many questions as we need, get God to talk through every step and ring up for extra advice when the going gets tough. Unfortunately, it\'s not that easy.

  • Offense and the f word.

Imagine that a large field of land represents your life, and on your block of land there are some explosive landmines. They\'re hidden—out of visible sight to your neighbours, and even yourself. All sorts of explosives nasties linger beneath the surface representing all kinds of hurts, from the \'I\'m-insecure-about-my-weight\' landmine, to the \'I-never-feel-good-enough\' landmine.

An opposing army lies before him, thousands of swords and spearheads glinting in the sun. On the open plains their superior numbers have successfully driven the diminishing Viking forces into retreat, but now they face a chokepoint, a bridge, defended by one lone warrior.

  • The blessing of blackouts

At the end of last year in October, the city of Adelaide—my home city, experienced a state-wide blackout—which has never previously occurred to this degree.

  • A letter to bullies!

I used to be scared of you. You used to rule my life. But one day I decided that I was sick of sitting in the dirt. If you didn\'t have to sit there, neither did I. So one day I decided to get up.

  • And release

Holding your arm out steadying your shot, you place an arrow on the string and rest it on top of your hand. Pulling your arm back you take a deep breath, aim the point at your target, and then release the arrow from its halted position.

  • Discouragement to encouragement

Discouragement comes in many different forms. From unmet expectations, to broken hearts, to feeling lonely in a crowded room, discouragement al-ways seems to rear it\'s ugly head more often than not.
