'To what shall we liken this generation?' In years to come, our final days in Christendom will be likened, I believe, to those experienced by the inhabitants of city under siege. But with a singular distinction that the inhabitants are completely unaware of the war being waged against them on the other side of the city walls.
So insidious was the change, that their leaders will lack the insight to notice that the millennia long, peaceful relations with their neighbours had past and that war had been declared upon them, a century earlier.
Rather than prepare their defenses, they and their flock had been earnestly applying themselves to trivialities, just as their forebears had taught them, incognizant of the smoke that billowed over the walls and unable to adapt, to the imminent danger.
Can a Mother Reject her Child?... Yes it appears so.
Such is the analogy, which broadly depicts the now estranged relationship between Western Civilization and Christianity, upon whose core values and beliefs it was founded. We are witnessing in our times, an Orwellian rewriting of history as Western Nations seek to systematic erase our Christian origins and attribute our success to Secularism or Science.
Even a rudimentary study of history, between the time of Pentecost to the Emperor Constantine, shows that the State (the Roman Empire) was overtly at war with Christianity. The pages of church history are stained vivid red with blood of Christian martyrs who dared to assert that Jesus Christ was greater than Caesar.
Paul's insight; 'That we contend not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places', which predicts the bloody tempest that awaited the clash between Christianity and the State, has its origin in the Spiritual realm.
The first Christians unlike ourselves knew that they were at war.
However, from the Christianising of the Empire under Constantine onwards and until recent times, the State while having a tenuous relationship with Christianity, nonetheless understood that it was on a Christian ethos that its institutions, laws and political systems were built.
But now these are slowly and ineluctably being replaced by godless and secular notions, to the point where the West, with its hand on its heart, cannot say we are truly Christian in essence.
Display the Evidence
The evidence for the imminent and certain demise of Christendom is overwhelming. Its stentorian voice can be heard by what is said and not said about Christianity in the media and the unrelenting dismantling of our Christian based laws. But are we listening?
For instance, how can a nation say it is Christian, when it openly condones the worship of Satan? (The archenemy of Yahweh). Prior the slaughter of 89 young lives in Bataclan Theatre, Paris, the Jihadist timed their massacre to coincide with lyrics to the song Kiss the Devil played by The Eagles of Death Metal.
The tragic massacre took place the moment they sung "I'll love the Devil, I'll sing his song". Here are two causes for outrage, firstly the massacre of 89 young adults in the name of religion and secondly but not less offensive is that a country can openly permit the worship of the Devil, and be regarded as Christian. Yet Christians do not see that their city is under siege.
Moreover, let's consider public school education for a moment. From the tender age of five, when a child enters our Public School System until the time he / she leaves it, it would be nothing less than a miracle, if they were not turned into atheists, who adhere to evolutionary dogma and are anti-Christian.
Consider this, our children from kindergarten onwards are being force fed evolutionary propaganda, with no opportunity to learn the countervailing argument, which states that an ineffably powerful God created the universe and life by fiat, and did not use a blind cumbersome process over billions of years.
The mere suggestion that God created us is scorned, as intellectually indefensible and the proposition that Creation should be taught in school ignites outrage. And yet, we cling tenaciously to the delusion that we are not under siege.
Surely the force of logic, demands that when God and the august event of Creation have been expelled from the classroom, then it is inevitably as each successive generation of children are taught a lie,in the place of the truth, that Atheism will replace Christianity in our nation.
Before you dismiss these assertions as a puerile fundamentalist rant, I challenge those Christians who reject the origin of life to the fiat of God, to consider carefully the underlying principle behind evolution, which when all the sophistry of science is pared back, is that life made itself over billions of years.
If Michelangelo were asked how he did his masterpiece, 'David' come into being and were to answer 'Oh! It made itself', we would laugh. Yet when the existence of life and mankind which is infinitely more marvelous than 'David', is said to have made itself, Christians flock to pay homage to this quasi scientific assertion, lest they be the lone voice which says 'the emperor wears no clothes'.
There is more.
In my solemn view, I aver that once homosexual marriage becomes law in Australia, then our children will be taught in the classroom that Sodomy is a legitimate sexual relationship, equal to heterosexuality and there will nothing that we can do stop it.
When I contemplate young children being encouraged to explore homosexuality as a viable option for life, I despair. When a nation, which promotes a form of sexuality, which is inimical to the explicit purposes of the God for humanity, made in his image, how can our nation possibly be regarded as Christian?
This is a doleful note to conclude Part 1. In the next installment I'll explore the exciting possibilities for societal transformation that Christians can drive.
