US Presidential Hillary Clinton demanded federal funding for Planned Parenthood while visiting the hub of the nation's Zika virus.
She also criticized Congress, especially its Republican leaders, for taking a summer break before passing the anti-Zika funding bill on Tuesday. They are slated to return to session in September.
Calling for a special session to get a bill passed, Clinton expressed her disappointment with the delay.
At the Borinquen Medical Centers of Miami-Dade County, the 68 year old said, "I am very disappointed that the Congress went on recess before actually agreeing on what they would do to put the resources into this fight."
She urged to pass two bills which funds Planned Parenthood. One is a $1.9 billion bill proposed by US President Barack Obama, and another $1.1 billion bill, both of which passed the Senate in May.
A $1.1 billion anti-Zika aid bill was approved by the House in June, but specified that it has nothing to do with the funding of Planned Parenthood or other abortion providers. Obama threatened to reject it as the Senate Democrats blocked the bill.
Clinton came down heavy on rival candidate Donald Trump for stating that the "epidemic has been largely controlled."
Opposing Clinton, Florida Senator Marco Rubio said that he disagrees to funding the nation's largest abortion provider and added that "babies whose mothers contract Zika do not deserve to be aborted."
Blaming the Democratic pro-abortion extremists, such as Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, the spokesperson of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said, "If Sen. Kaine and his fellow Democrats want to pass a bill now, they can end their filibuster and simply give unanimous consent to pass the conference report and send it straight to the President this week."
"Apparently they believe an earmark for Planned Parenthood in the future is more important that preventing the threat of Zika now," Pentecostal televangelist Don Stewart commented.
21 people in Florida have reportedly contracted the Zika virus which can bring cases of microcephaly into the US.
