I could wax lyrical with reference after reference to classic examples of where the Left use their influence to cite cases that have little merit over against overwhelming evidence to the contrary and the media lap it up as 'gold'!
But there is a champion for good. Miranda Divine doesn't mince words and in a recent column titled The Left Blind to the Slaughter of Christians cited:
"There is a Christian genocide going on in the Middle East and Africa. Christians are the most persecuted group on the planet but the Left is only exercised about dead Palestinian children, because it gives them an opportunity to kick Israel. It doesn't compute for the Left to see Christians as victims. Nor can they fathom that the Israelis they like to call "Zionists" are victims, because the word "Jew" makes them uncomfortable, with its reminders of the Holocaust.
"There are photos of (Christian) women and children slaughtered in their homes. Murdered as they cowered in bathrooms or sat in their tidy lounge rooms. God knows what happened to the men. But for the likes of Greens MP Lee Rhiannon, the only oppressor is Israel, the only victim Muslim. The Palestinian people, the Iraqis, the Syrians, they know fanatical Islam is the real enemy, but Rhiannon and friends keep finding excuses As for the Christian cleansing of Mosul, where Christians have co-existed with Muslims for 2000 years, that barely rates a mention from the hand-wringing Left.
"Australia should do the same (France is taking in these Middle East Christian refugees). Now the Abbott government has all but stopped the boats, we have humanitarian places free that aren't being occupied by the fake refugees Sarah Hanson-Young is so enamoured of. We should make Mosul's homeless Christians a special humanitarian offer. We can't take them all but we can join France in offering moral leadership to the world."
There you have it
So what might be the answer to such obvious misrepresented comments and reporting by the Left? These are a few suggestions:
Core values reporting must be supported and highlighted and circulate those article links to both your own network and your local politicians. There is no stronger power than the grass roots when it comes to influence.
It is also critical to address such issues to friends and workmates. One of the core values we as a society hold are the value of the intangibles of life. These are things we cannot see or touch but are of intrinsic value to us all.
Here is a short list of such intangibles -
Try this on for size. Next time you're at the local supermarket, ask the store helper where the find the packet of Loyalty. Perhaps the jar of Honesty. What shelf might be the packet of Integrity. Perhaps they might be better off trying to locate the box of Ambition.
These are all unseen. None of these can be touched and handled as say, a table or a chair. Herein lies the difficulty of promoting any of the intangibles. We experience them in some measure every day of our lives but try as we might to put a handle of them we find words inadequate to the task.
The Left leaning willing media nonetheless find it much easier to speak of and show some misrepresented this or that with a clarity of references, but all of whom come with a bias any considered person could drive a bus through.
A dangerous nonsense
Listening to one commentator recently on the Andrew Bolt television program, he was astonished - to hear the woman panellist say - that all now concur that the boats should be stopped, strong border protection was paramount, but then preceded to attempt to pull apart those very same policies, and thus allowing in effect an open border outcome.
It all becomes so ridiculous that the vast majority of the Australian population throws its hands up in the air in despair when yet another lefty spruiks such nonsense.
We saw this at a political level with the abolition of the Carbon Tax last July. No one denied, from the Opposition to the Greens or the PUP that the Government had a clear mandate to remove the Carbon Tax. But, when it came to the legislation to repeal the Carbon Tax every "Tom, Dick and Harry" (as it were) demanded their bit of whatever be either retained or something put in its place.
Meanwhile the country was going down the financial gurgle. Now that bill too has been passed along with abolition of the Mining Tax. But guess whose side the Left leaning media was reporting with all the bias and intrigue possible.
Christians are required to be discerning about all matters - regardless of the criticism that will come our way from the lucid and savvy left atheistic procurators.
Truth does matter. A pilot flying a jet liner at 35,000 feet knows that truth matters. The banking industry knows that truth matters. An architect knows that truth matters. Truth does matter.
