'Taming the Tiger' in Sydney

The event known as "Taming the Tiger" was held in the Chinese Christian Church, Milsons Point, Sydney on Wednesday, 22nd April. The church and two adjoining halls were packed for the multi-national presentation and heard the gospel clearly presented, with spiritual results.

|PIC1|"Taming the Tiger" is an outreach of the Avanti Ministries Ltd, based in Southend-on-Sea, Essex in the United Kingdom. Its founder, an Italian/Chinese former world Kung Fu champion, Tony Anthony, assisted by an ex-prisoner, Lance Thompson LL.B, presented personal testimonies and the gospel challenge, in English, to a packed, primarily Chinese audience, in Sydney, Australia!

Lance Thompson is the co-ordinator for Prison Fellowship New Zealand's Auckland Region. He is a graduate of the Faith Based Unit, an ex-prisoner who has found meaning in the time he spent behind bars. Prior to being sent to prison, Lance owned a number of businesses and also studied law at the University of Auckland. His testimony was of a man who was highly successful in business who served a jail sentence and found the Lord as his Saviour.

Wing Chun Khong, song leader for the evening, met Tony Anthony in Hong Kong and was instrumental in this first visit to Sydney for this unique evangelist.

Tony Anthony, who bears more of a resemblance to his Italian parenthood than his Chinese inheritance, spoke of his childhood, being raised by his Chinese grandfather from 4 years-of-age due to a family illness in England. There was "harsh discipline" which resulted in him gaining a Black Belt in Kung Fu by the age of seven.

He went on to be a three times Kung Fu World Champion, a bodyguard to some of the world's very important people. Following personal experience through the death of a loved one, he turned on society. His accounts of physical abuse of others and even bloodthirsty incidents resulted in his being jailed in Cyprus.

His humorous details of his reactions to a missionary visiting him while in prison, turned the tone of the presentation from hate and a vile existence to love and concern.

As he said: "Through the visits of a stranger, his life changed forever when he was introduced to Christianity."

Tony Anthony became an international evangelist, and for 19 years he has travelled the world telling about the miraculous transformation that occurred in his life. He addresses hundreds of thousands of people every year, speaking in prisons, schools, universities, churches, concerts, and city wide events.

Tony presented the gospel challenge and invitation at the conclusion of his address and those responding streamed forward.

Tony Anthony is the founding Director of Avanti Ministries, which is a ministry of evangelism and discipleship training. Tony has a burning concern for the proclamation and spread of the Gospel around the globe coupled with a huge passion to equip others to do the same.
